Christine in her video studio still with the old laptop and the old screen
Mobile video editing in 4K resolution on laptops was a problem until recently. This usually meant waiting, waiting, waiting.
On our new, self-configured laptop, 4K video processing with Adobe Suite is no longer a problem at all.
No jerks, no waiting and no proxy files required.
Christine is happy.
Our new 17" HD laptop FHD IPS G-Sync 1920x1080 latest generation has the following features:
CPU (Prozessor): Intel Core i7-6700MQ, 4x 2.60GHz, 6MB Cache
Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 4GB GDDR5
Random access memory: 64GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-2133 SO-DIMM (4x 16GB)
1. Hard Drive / SSD (M.2 / PCIe): 256GB Samsung 950 PRO up to 2200Mb/s read
2. Hard Drive / SSD (M.2 / PCIe): 512GB Samsung 950 PRO up to 2200Mb/s read

Disks 3 and 4 are interconnected as RAID 0, providing 2 TB at double speed.

Built-in card reader
HD-Audio Onboard sound card.
Wireless LAN Intern (M.2) : 867MBit/s Qualcom-Atheros Killer Wireless-AC 1535
When distributing the data to the different hard disks, care must be taken that no "bottle neck" is emitted.
The two very fast SSD hard drives are connected directly on the motherboard via the fast PCIe bus with the 4-core processor, which processes eight threads at the same time.
That all treads are be really busy, all programs are stored on the first hard drive C: /. The project and the project cache are stored on the second hard disk D: /.
This results in a super-fast data throughput because many things are happen parallel. The 64 GB RAM also contributes to this.
All footage is on the internal hard disk E: /, which is a RAID 0 system consisting of hard disks 3 and 4. No external data traffic via USB is required.
It is very important that the footage should be externally secured on another hard disk.
RAID 0 means the parallel interconnection of two same size hard disks, the data being sporadically stored on both hard disks.
This results in double the speed and storage capacity, but has the crucial disadvantage that if one hard disk fails, all data from both hard disks are completely lost..
So always S A V E ! ! !
The laptop has an extra large blower, but it only starts to blow properly when the computer is rendering. Finally, we usually have about 32 degrees C ambient temperature on our catamaran!
The selected laptop configuration represents a compromise between price and required performance.
In the equipment, there are hardly no limits for the processor, graphics card, RAM and hard disks.
This laptop is sufficient for our current projects.
The laptop was deliberately without a 4K display, which would have made the laptop unnecessarily expensive.
For video editing we use a extern high-quality 27" 4K screen, which is connected via HDMI as a second screen.
